Tiger and Dragon Compatibility

Tiger carries the Yin branch and yang Wood; Dragon carries the Chen branch and yang Earth. Together with the Rabbit's Mao branch, Yin and Chen form the Three Meetings (san hui) group tied to the eastern direction and the Wood element — one of the six formal branch relations, traditionally read as a directional grouping. Five-element theory adds a separate note: Wood restrains Earth, the same checking relationship seen between Tiger and Ox, so the branch-level alliance and the elemental restraint run as two distinct threads rather than reinforcing one another.

Chen carries a double identity within the Tiger-Rabbit-Dragon alliance: it completes the trio as the third branch, and on its own the same branch carries the Earth element, one of the four branches traditionally grouped together as vaults — Chen specifically named the vault of Water. Dragon therefore holds two separate roles at once: joining Tiger and Rabbit through the alliance, and separately storing Water's energy, with neither role interfering with the other.

Tiger is traditionally described as bold, confident, and eager to act, while Dragon is often painted as equally confident and charismatic, comfortable commanding attention. Old sayings describe the two as strong personalities sharing the same stage — momentum can build quickly when both push in the same direction, but friction can just as easily surface if each expects to lead. This is offered as a window into old zodiac custom, not a basis for judging any real relationship, health issue, or financial matter.
